Abstract
This study sought to establish the relationship between Community Development and Biodiversity maintenance awareness. It has been observed that a sustainable community is one that implements projects aimed at long-term management of natural resources for ecological, health and economic growth, all geared towards supporting basic needs, and social equity. It places emphasis on maintenance of biodiversity through sustainable community development efforts. The area under study (Ini Local Government Area) is rich in biological resources, some of which have huge economic significance. However, most biodiversity issues and values in the area are mismanaged and stand the risk of being destroyed through human activities. Analysis of data collected through interview and questionnaire from 180 respondents was statistically done with the chi-square test to determine if there was a significant relationship between Community Development Practice and Biodiversity Maintenance in Ini Local Government Area. Findings from the study indicated that there was a significant relationship between Community Development and Biodiversity maintenance awareness can be achieved through Community Development Practices and this could go a long way to promoting the wellbeing of Ini rural dwellers. Based on the above findings, it was recommended among others, that a strategic approach to Community Development Practice concerned with biodiversity maintenance awareness should operate across each local area, with strengthened regional Community Development networks and appropriate national links.
